High molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HMW-HA) has larger-sized molecules, which primarily act as a humectant on the skin’s surface. HMW-HA forms a film-like layer, locking in moisture and preventing water loss. This protective effect helps to maintain the skin’s hydration levels, resulting in a plump and supple appearance. HMW-HA is ideal for individuals with dry or dehydrated skin, as it provides long-lasting moisture retention and improves the skin’s barrier function.

Molecular Weight: 1.0 – 1.5 M Da

•Intense hydration – One of the most powerful moisturizers and humectants available.

•Enhances skin smoothness & softness – Improves texture for a more supple and radiant complexion.

•Reduces the appearance of wrinkles – Helps plump fine lines and restore skin’s youthful look.

This highly versatile humectant is perfect for a wide range of skincare products, including:

•Hydrating gels & serums – Locks in moisture and prevents transepidermal water loss.

•Moisturizing creams & lotions – Enhances hydration and improves skin texture.

•Anti-aging & anti-wrinkle treatments – Helps plump the skin and minimize fine lines.

•Pre & post-sun care – Soothes and restores hydration after sun exposure.

•Sensitive & dry skin formulations – Provides deep nourishment and supports skin barrier function.

Hyaluronic acid is typically used at 0.1–1% in skincare formulations. Unlike low molecular weight HA, which dissolves easily, this form binds water rapidly, forming a gel-like consistency. When adding directly to water, hyaluronic Acid has a tendency to clump when added to water. It can be pre-mixed with glycerin prior to adding to water — this will prevent agglomeration and create a smooth mixture.

After mixing the hyaluronic acid with glycerin to form a fluid slurry, add to the water while stirring at high speed (using a hand mixer or vortex mixer). Continue to mix under a smooth homogenous gel forms and the hyaluronic acid is fully hydrated. Avoid adding additional hyaluronic acid after this point, as there is no longer enough unbound water to dissolve properly and may form lumps. When making a larger volume, you can also add it to water and use a stick (immersion) blender to blend it until thickened.

For best results, incorporate this ingredient into formulations that require long-lasting hydration and skin barrier support.
